Naruto Shippuden | Complete guide to the seasons

First Season (2007)

The beginning of Naruto Shippuden marks Naruto's return to Konoha. This season, Gaara becomes Kage from the Sand Village and is kidnapped by the Akatsuki. Naruto and team 7, now made up of Sai, are on a mission to rescue the shinobi.

Main deaths:

  • Sasori
  • Chiyo

Season Two (2007-2008)

Team 7 is tasked with chasing Sasuke, who is in Orochimaru's lair. Naruto duels with his old friend and discovers that he is much more powerful. Sai reveals that he had orders to try to kill Sasuke, but gives up on the idea when he sees Naruto's friendship with the Uchiha clan member.

Despite the various fights, no character ends up being killed this season.

Third season (2008)

This new anime arc is, for the most part, filler, meaning it is not found in the original manga story and was produced exclusively for animation. These events do not interfere with the main plot of the series.

Naruto spends much of the season training after realizing that his friend and rival Sasuke is stronger. He spends the season developing his own techniques, following Kakashi's suggestion. The season ends when the Konoha ninja meets Hidan and Kakuzu, two members of Akatsuki. The shinobi prepare to face them.

Season four (2008-2009)

Marked by the battles against the Akatsuki duo, the fourth season begins with the death of Asuma at the hands of Hidan and Kakuzu. Konoha's ninjas confront Hidan and Kakuzu, who are extremely powerful. During the fierce confrontation, Naruto manages to use his new technique: Release from the Wind: Rasenshuriken. The blow weakens Hidan and allows Shikamaru to avenge Asuma.

The two teams triumphantly return to Konoha, where they discover that Kurenai is pregnant with Asuma.

Main deaths:
  • Assume
  • Hidan
  • Kakuzu

Fifth Season (2009)

Back in Konoha after the battle against the Akatsuki, Naruto realizes that he should not use his Rasenshuriken again: despite causing massive damage to the receiver, the technique also ends up causing injury to the emitter.

Meanwhile, Orochimaru sees that his body loses strength. While Kabuto goes off to find a remedy for his master, Sasuke attacks and kills him, absorbing all the knowledge from his former captor. Sasuke then assembles a team to search for Itachi, whom he attempts to kill using the newly acquired powers. Deidara fights Sasuke and ends up attempting a suicide jutsu to defeat the Uchiha clan member, but fails.

Main deaths:
  • Orochimaru (who resuscitates)
  • Deidara

Sixth Season (2009-2010)

Senin tells Tsunade that he will go to the main village to gather information about the Akatsuki. However, as soon as he reaches the village, Jiraya is detected by Pain. The senin loses the fight, but before he dies, Jiraya sends a secret message to Konoha, informing him of Pain's plans. The Akatsuki leader attacks using his Six Paths, making it difficult to defend the village and leaving many victims. The invaders search for Naruto in an attempt to capture his Jinchuuriki. The ninjas resist, dividing into teams to try to stop Pain.

In the midst of the confrontation, Tsunade finally realizes the meaning of Jiraya's message and discovers the key to stopping Pain. Pain's true identity was Nagato, who was far from controlling all six bodies with his chakra. Naruto finally begins to fight Pain.

During the confrontation, Hinata saves Naruto's life and reveals his love for the ninja, who ends up releasing the 8 tails of his Jinchuuriki. The spirit of her father, Minato, appears and reseals the demon in Naruto, who regains consciousness and manages to defeat Pain.
